In this interview I recommended a watching a teaching called ‘5 Ways God Guides Us’. It’s packed full of helpful advice on how to hear God’s voice and how to avoid being led astray. Watch it now:click here.
The bible says that God has a unique plan for each of our lives and that we’ve all been called to bear fruit for His Kingdom. However, sometimes we struggle to know exactly what God is calling us to do or where He’s calling us to go. So, is God willing to speak to us specifically? …and if so… how can we recognise His voice?
(This is only a portion of the full transcript) David Steele is here to give us some tips on how to find God’s will for our lives. So, whenever we’ve got big decisions to make we all get down to praying, even those who don’t have much faith perhaps offer up a prayer to God, whom they perhaps don’t know, to find out what to do, where to go or what decision to make. Is discerning the will of God hard, would you say? I think it can be difficult. Sometimes we ask God a question and because we don’t really expect Him to answer, we kind of move on before we’ve waited for the answer. Or we expect Him to speak in a particular way and perhaps He’s speaking to us in lots of different ways but it’s not the way we’re expecting Him to speak. Then we’re thinking ‘God’s not speaking to me’, but when we understand that God is a creative God who speaks in lots of different ways, we are in a better position to hear what He’s saying to us. So if we have a series of coincidences (and some Christians might call them ‘God-incidences’) in our lives, that seem to all point in a certain way, would you say that was God speaking? I would say that that is one of the ways that God can speak – through the circumstances of everyday life. I wouldn’t want to make decisions only on that, because as you say there can be coincidences, there can be things that happen that make us think that God is leading us in a particular direction. However, if He’s also speaking to us through His word, and it’s in the same direction… perhaps He’s also speaking to us through His Spirit and we have that deep sense of peace about where we feel He’s leading us (and the circumstances kind of fit, so the doors are opening before us), then I think that is a really good sign that that’s the direction God is leading us in.
